About me
Beth Hussey, a 35-year veteran of the restaurant industry, is a passionate advocate for cultivating a legacy mindset through innovative workforce development. She founded Shifty in 2020, a subscription-as-a-service mobile application designed to revolutionize how the service industry trains, engages, and retains a strong workforce. Shifty is based on a proven methodology she developed in the late 1990s, which has successfully trained and retained thousands of restaurant employees across more than 20 establishments.
Beth’s commitment to training and employee development runs deep. During the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, she refined her approach, transforming decades of experience into a scalable platform to benefit both independently owned restaurants and larger corporate operations.
Beth’s career journey reflects her hands-on understanding of the industry, having worked her way up from dishwasher to owner. In addition to her work with Shifty, she co-owns Hazel’s, a popular seafood restaurant in Birmingham, Michigan, where she continues to foster a culture of excellence alongside Chef Emmele Herrold.
Beyond her contributions to the hospitality industry, Beth is deeply involved in her community. She serves as a board member of the Birmingham Shopping District, shaping initiatives that support local businesses, and is the co-founder of The Great Decorate, a non-profit organization raising funds for teens aging out of foster care.
Beth’s unique perspective on engaging the next generation of workers is grounded in her extensive industry experience and dedication to creating tools that make training smarter, easier, and more effective. Her leadership on cultivating a legacy mindset offers invaluable insights for those seeking to attract and retain Gen Z in hospitality.
